What Is The Metaverse?
In an educational context, the metaverse could potentially be used in a number of ways:
Virtual classrooms: The metaverse could be used to host virtual classrooms, allowing students and teachers to participate in real-time, interactive lessons from anywhere in the world.
Collaborative learning: The metaverse could facilitate collaborative learning by providing a platform for students to work together on projects and assignments in a virtual environment.
Virtual field trips: The metaverse could be used to take students on virtual field trips, allowing them to visit and explore locations that may be difficult or impossible to access in person.
Simulation and training: The metaverse could be used to create realistic simulations and environments for training purposes, such as preparing students for careers in fields such as healthcare or emergency response.
Distance learning: The metaverse could be used to support distance learning, allowing students to take courses and earn degrees without having to be physically present on campus.
Case study
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has revolutionized the Indian education system, allowing students to collect credits from multiple approved universities. This landmark decision was a major step forward in making education more accessible and less restrictive. Furthermore, AICTE became the first accreditation body in the world to have a virtual office in metaverse (and it is known as Polyversity), further demonstrating their commitment towards modernizing the educational experience. The introduction of this innovative system has enabled students to better manage their multiple certificates and broaden their academic horizons.
Polyversity is revolutionizing the way students attend university classes by allowing them to take courses that are delivered live online. Attendance is automatically recorded when the student enters the lecture space digitally, providing an authenticated valid record of their participation. This structure also enables both the student and lecturers to access digital artifacts, ensuring a secure and accurate learning experience.
Information Data Systems (IDS) team in collaboration with AICTE build Polyversity Metaverse and has already onboarded over 100,000 students from more than 70 universities to the Metaverse platform. This is a learning experience like we have never had before, a new way of collaboration between universities and students.
