Your Happiness Can Help Change The World
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to see people happy and getting along. Yet we live in a world where people increasingly struggle with their mental health, and, whether on the scale of households or nations, people so often do not get along. Despite the abundance of self-help books, gurus, life coaches, and mental health practitioners, individual and collective unhappiness is rampant.
Most people struggle in one area or another, whether it’s their career, family, relationships, personal development, spirituality, or health and fitness. They may feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or stuck and most likely have tried different solutions without avail.
At the same time, the state of the world is often sad and unimaginably horrifying. Things like justice, freedom, dignity, and peace, which every human being has a right to, are inaccessible to far too many. Wars that should be a thing of the past still exist with a complete disregard for the sanctity of human life.
We are in a critical moment. We need new solutions, and we need them fast. It’s time to take action towards a happier world, and that starts inside each one of us.
True happiness is not just a personal pursuit but a powerful catalyst for positive change. As it brings out the best in us, it has a ripple effect, benefiting everyone around us. For instance, a happy individual is more likely to be kind and compassionate, which can positively impact their relationships and community. When we grasp the true essence of happiness, we not only lead more fulfilling lives but also contribute to a happier world, empowered by the belief that our happiness has the power to influence the collective happiness of humanity.
With the abundance of happiness-related content, we hear a great deal about manifesting the life we want and achieving our goals. That is valid and important because we are worthy and deserving of happiness. At the same time, as we get better at connecting with and looking out for ourselves, let’s get better at connecting with and looking out for one another. Instead of focusing on manifesting a happier life for ourselves alone, how about we think about manifesting a happier world for all of us?
As a starting point, we need to prioritize happiness. We need to understand what happiness is, what it isn’t, what it means to each one of us individually, and how to go about it. Simultaneously, we need to make sure that our happiness is in alignment with our humanity. This alignment ensures that as we thrive, others can thrive too. Happiness that is disconnected from our humanity or that disregards fellow human beings is not true happiness. A holistic approach to happiness that considers the well-being of all is crucial.
My upcoming book, Why Can’t We All Be Happy? poses a thought-provoking question that, unfortunately, is not sufficiently addressed by traditional happiness and self-help books that tend to focus on individual happiness with little emphasis on our collective happiness as humanity. It aims to set us collectively on a happier path, presenting happiness as essential and achievable from the inside out. It shows readers how to take charge of their mindset, emotions and actions and align them with their most loving and authentic selves so they can unleash the happiness within them, spread the love around them and actively participate in changing the world.
